The inaugural season of the American Soccer League kicked off Saturday night as the AC Crusaders hosted the Philadelphia Fury. Fury captain Josh Danza scored in stoppage time in the 94th minute to tie the game 5-5 for the Philadelphia Fury. Down 5-4 with only seconds remaining, Danza pushed up from the defense into the box to finish a cross inside the six-yard box into the roof of the net. Delivering the cross was former collegiate teammate Ansger Otto (Stevenson University, Iona College, Gainare Tottori (Japan), Jersey Express) whose 3 goal, 1 assist performance makes him the league's leading scorer. Unfortunately Danza's late-game heroics was not enough as the AC Crusaders scored seconds later as the final whistle blew.
Scoring Philadelphia's first goal of their first game in the first season of the American Soccer League was another player with ties to Baltimore, Joshua Chellah (Baltimore Bays Academy, Long Reach HS, Wesley College).
